Our Mission
The Thompson-Okanagan Interface Committee (TOIC) is an independent organization consisting of wildland and structural firefighters, emergency response officials, and local and provincial government representatives whose jurisdictions interact when emergent situations threaten the public's safety or property.
Primary Committee objectives consist of:
- Providing Fire Smart educational material for TOIC members and the public on the challenges of living in interface areas subject to wildfires.
- Encouraging community based initiatives to reduce the risk of fire losses and enhance safety in the wildland/urban interface.
- By way of a biennial symposium, provide technical and educational information to Committee members and wildland urban interface response stakeholders on all issues related to interface fire hazards.
- Keep the public informed on their responsibilities should they choose to live or recreate in the wildland/urban interface.
TOIC members are committed to work together with other organizations to improve the awareness of wildland/urban interface fire hazards and provide information on effective preventative solutions.
